Salem is a city of approximately 40,400 people, located 13 miles north of Boston and is bordered by Beverly, Peabody, Lynn, Swampscott and Marblehead. The Salem Fire Department operates 4 engines, 2 ladders and a deputy chief out of 4 stations. A fifth station is occupied by the fire prevention bureau. Salem also has a spare engine along with a few support vehicles. E-1, TL-2, C-2 run out of Headquarters at 48 Lafayette Street. E-2 runs out of Station 2 at 142 North Street, E-4 and L-1 (When staffing permits) runs out of Station 4 at 415 Essex Street, spare Engine 6 is also housed there. Finally E-5 runs out of Station 5 at 64 Loring Avenue. Fire prevention operates out of former Station 6 on Fort Avenue. Atlantic Ambulance Service provides ambulance service to the city.
